The taste of warmth in our mouths and salty hair that blew in the wind. We were blowing in the wind and so were the wetsuits that took the edge off of the morning chill hung over the wing mirrors of our van. I snapped away for the duration of our stay on a toy camera. 72 chances at capturing what it meant to be on a road trip. Just as many decisions and choices on what to capture and what to miss out on.
I recently got around to putting together and printing the third edition of a range of zines that I am working on. From the title you can hedge a guess about its name. Its called Sojourn and hints at our brief but fruitful stay in the US.
The zines all focused on or around my infatuation with the ocean and bodies of water or getting to them, like in this case. I made the images on a Kodak Ektar half frame camera and gave it little thought whilst shooting. The front cover image of the zine actually became gnarled as it fell into a lake in Nebraska. I always loved leaving things to chance and thought that the slight water effect was a nice touch considering the name of the zine.
For those of you that have been following my journey for some time will be aware of a little short film I made of Nova Scotia, called EAST.
I made that film to coincide with the release of the second edition of zines that chronicled my stay in Nova Scotia.
In the next few days or so I shall be releasing the next film I made to go with the Sojourn zine I am releasing today. You can watch the first film here.
I love putting my work out there for people to see and appreciate each and every one of those of you out there that have previously bought copies of my zines. If you’d like the latest copy please reach out to me and I will arrange to send one to you. They’re priced at £15 each and would mean alot to me to have your support.
If you’d like all three editions of my zines I can send these to you at a discounted price.
That’s it for now
Happy sliding
Steve
This is a beautiful way to compile your photos, there’s something magical about the unpredictability of analogue
Hey Steven! Absolutely love this! Would love to get my hands on one? Where do I buy it? Also I know you mentioned I could get a copy of Zine #1. Would love to get that as well. Thanks! Congrats on this project! I know it is not easy releasing something out in the world.
