My affinity with Portugal and the portuguese language has brought me many months of joy. Especially from a little place on the coast of Portugal called Ferrel near the popular surfing hotspot of Baleal. It was here that I spent months walking, surfing and photographing the local scenery and all that made it so special.
For me this part of the coast has a deep allure. Something I cant quite put into words. The sun breaches the high cliffs early in the morning and transforms the whole place into something you can almost taste. The surroundings coming alive with the colours and vibrancy only Portuguese villages and coastlines seem to have. To me anyway.
It’s very difficult to not love this view and to leave it was far harder. Portugal had been easy and simultaneously difficult. The country’s economy is renowned for poor wages and red tape. I would always just be scratching the surface of this beautiful place.
These months I spent living in Portugal culminated in a lot of soul searching and photographing - the end result being this zine .
It includes pictures that I made mainly in and around the Peniche/Baleal area. It is not a pure photographic zine in the fact that there are also words and art works as part of this little booklet. Whilst I am a photographer, I also really love experimenting in other mediums and so added those here.
Bits and pieces of Portuguese were added here and there to give a flavour of my experience. The whole zine came together and as a synopsis of my style and artistic direction.

Obrigado por estar aqui.
Cool to see! Awesome that instead of just having some digital photos of your time in Portugal now you can this physical zine. Physicality!
